"For coolness, skill and gallantry in action during a premature explosion aboard one of His Majesty's Canadian Ships (HMCS Strathdam). Following the explosion, Lieutenant-Commander Wilkinson displayed fearless patience and courage in rendering safe the remaining ammunition which had been prepared for firing and was in a highly sensitive state due to fragments from the explosion."
