"During ten months continuous operational service, as Coxswain of the ship, the skill, promptitude and efficiency of this Chief Petty Officer contributed largely to the success of two encounters with enemy submarines, the successful evasion of bombs and shells during an attack and when fired on by shore batteries. He is also worthy of mention for the occasion of rescue operations in a heavy sea in September 1944. His leadership, example and devotion to duty have also been of the highest order."
