"Chief Stoker Patry carried out his duties as Chief Stoker in charge of No. 2 and No. 3 boilers under the most exacting conditions during an action with an enemy U-Boat. Without his coolness and capability, the necessary supply of steam to the engines, which were constantly being worked ahead and astern at full speed, could not have been maintained."
