"For risking his life rescuing the whaler crew of HMCS Stormont trapped in the ice off shore in a gale. This Rating took a line a considerable distance over soft ice to enable the crew to come ashore during conditions when no other boat was available. Had this not been done, it is highly improbable that the whaler could have been beached until the gale subsided the following day."
