"This rating has served at sea in one of His Majesty's Canadian corvettes since commissioning in 1940, both as Stoker Petty Officer and as Engine Room Artificer in charge of machinery. In the salvaging of a torpedoed tanker in March, 1942, he was the senior engine room rating placed on board and played an important part in steaming the ship for four days to port. He has at all times carried out his duties with marked efficiency, great loyalty and devotion to duty worthy of the highest traditions of the Royal Canadian Navy."
